Hey, I’m Mark — and I’ve been figuring out travel the hard way so you don’t have to.
I took my first solo trip at 24 with an overpacked suitcase, a guidebook I barely used, and a vague plan that fell apart on day two. I missed a connecting flight in Frankfurt, got talked into a tour I didn’t want, and paid three times the going rate for a hotel room because I hadn’t booked anything in advance.
That trip was also one of the best things I’ve ever done.
Since then I’ve spent time in more than 30 countries across Europe, Asia, and the Middle East — sometimes for a few weeks, sometimes for months at a stretch. I’ve stayed in cave hotels in Cappadocia and hostel dorms in Lisbon. I’ve taken overnight trains through the Balkans and booked mistake fares to Tokyo. I’ve traveled with a 60-liter backpack and with a single personal item that fit under the seat.
I started edevl.com because the travel advice I kept finding online was either too vague to be useful or written by people who clearly hadn’t done the thing they were writing about. “Be flexible with your dates” is not advice. A breakdown of exactly which days and months are cheapest on which kinds of routes — that’s advice.
That’s what I try to write here.
What This Site Is About
edevl.com covers practical travel: how to find cheap flights, how to pack smarter, where to stay and why, and what to actually do in the places worth visiting. The destination guides are written from personal experience or from extensive research when I haven’t been somewhere myself — and I’m always clear about which is which.
I’m not trying to cover everywhere. I’d rather write one genuinely useful guide to Kyoto than ten shallow ones to ten cities I know nothing about. The posts take time to write because I think they should.
There are no “top 10 Instagram spots” here. No content written purely to rank for a keyword with nothing real behind it. If I write about something — a hostel booking tip, a packing method, a neighborhood in a city — it’s because I’ve thought about it seriously and believe it’s actually worth your time.
